What’s Involved In Forklift Training in Wolverhampton?
If you work in a warehouse or on a construction site, having your forklift training certificate means you can safely and legally operate a forklift to make your life much easier. But what’s included in forklift training, and how do you get certified? Here’s everything you need to know about our training courses in Wolverhampton.
What is Forklift Training?
The main goal of forklift certification is to ensure you can operate a forklift safely and competently. This gives your employer the peace of mind that the risk of injury and damage is reduced on-site.
You’ll work toward receiving certification from an approved body, and by the end of the course, you’ll have a license allowing you to operate a forklift on any work site.
What is Included in Forklift Training in Wolverhampton?
If you’ve never taken any forklift training before, you’ll get started with basic training. This focuses on how to operate a forklift truck safely by practising in one of our purpose-built testing centres.
If done on location, we’ll focus on how to operate a forklift on your job site, but training is done away from normal commercial operations. We can combine basic training with specific job training to ensure you know how to operate a forklift in your workplace.
Basic forklift training includes:
- An introduction to forklift controls and instruments.
- Correct procedures for mounting and dismounting.
- Start, move, stop, and steer the forklift.
- Operation of the hydraulic controls.
- Weight assessment and stability.
- Handling pallets and laden loads.
- Stacking and de-stacking.
- Driving on and off ramps.
- Loading and unloading procedures.
- Refuelling procedures.
Training includes a theoretical element which ensures you understand the basics before using a forklift. The practical test then assesses your basic operating skills.
How Long Does Forklift Training Take?
Courses are long enough to cover all requirements the DRITTOP and ITSSAR bodies set out. The time taken to complete the course will depend on the type of machinery used, the previous experience of students, and how many learners are in your team.
As a general guide, it takes around five days for three students to complete the training (which equates to about 37 hours). Of course, it can be less, depending on the students.
If you have previous experience, you can take a refresher course to update your license, which takes less time than basic training.
No matter how much experience you have, our instructors will work with you to ensure you feel comfortable and confident taking your exam to get your certification.
